SUMMARY:[Workshop] Creating Digital Exhibitions with IIIF
DESCRIPTION:Organizers: Anne McLaughlin (Corpus Christi College\, Cambridge)\, Martin Hinze and Saher Semaan (UB Freiburg) \nIIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework“) is a protocol for the interoperable and sustainable use of digital image-based resources\, which until now have often been stored in local ’silos‘ and thus are not always easily accessible for collaborative work. In recent years\, IIIF has gained numerous users in libraries\, archives and museums and has become a standard for archiving\, making available and annotating image-based data. One of its objectives is to make image data available in such a way that it can be re-used and recycled by third parties. This technology is currently being tested at the University Library as part of the „Making Mysticism“ project (https://making-mysticism.org/). The workshop should serve as a networking meeting and bring together those who are already working with IIIF or are interested its future use. A special topic of the workshop will be the creation of digital exhibitions with IIIF. \n\nProgram\n10:15-12:00 \n\nIntroduction round. Who is already dealing with digital collections and exhibitions?\nShort introduction to IIIF:\n\nWhat is IIIF?\nWhat is a IIIF Manifesto?\nHow can image resources be annotated?\nDemonstration of IIIF exhibitions and software to generate IIIF exhibitions.\n\n\n12:00-13:00 \n\nbreak and lunch (please register in advance for lunch so we can reserve a table)\n\n13:00-14:30 \n\nThis block is optional. It should give the participants the opportunity to try IIIF by themselves. Participants will learn to collect IIIF resources from the Internet and compare them with various tools\, annotate them and create their own collections and exhibitions. It would be best to bring your own notebook with Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox installed.\n\n\nThe workshop will be held in English. \nVisitors are cordially invited. Please register in advance at martin.hinze@ub.uni-freiburg.
